Upholstered Beds

The first measurement to settle is the headboard height. Our upholstered beds run from just under 50 inches to 65 inches tall, and that difference changes the whole room. In a space with standard 8-foot ceilings, a 65-inch wingback reads like architecture. If your bed sits under a window, though, a 49-inch headboard clears the sill and still gives you that upholstered presence without blocking light. Measure the wall before you choose the frame.

Fabric comes second. Linen is the one we reach for most often. It breathes, it resists pilling, and it softens without losing its shape. Velvet catches the light in a way linen cannot, and it is the pick for a bedroom that leans formal. Boucle is textured and tactile, good if you want the bed to be the room’s main piece of soft sculpture.

Faux fur is the softest of the four, but it is also the most specific. It belongs in a room that already has a clear point of view. Underneath, the frames are steel or solid wood, so the structure stays the same no matter which fabric you choose.

A small number of beds in this department include LED reading lights or USB charging ports tucked into the headboard. They are worth the extra cost if your nightstand is cramped or you want to keep cords off the floor. If you already have bedside lamps you love, skip that option and put the money toward the taller headboard or the velvet instead.

What matters more to us is that most of these beds do not need a box spring. The platform supports the mattress directly, which lowers the whole profile and saves you the expense. Easy assembly is common but not guaranteed, so if you plan to build it alone, check that detail on the piece you are considering.

This department will not suit everyone. None of our upholstered beds offer under-bed storage. There are no drawers, no lift-up platforms. If you need to hide away off-season clothes, look elsewhere. We also do not cut upholstered frames in Twin size, so the smallest bedroom or a child’s room will need a different bed. And even at the shorter end, our headboards read tall. If you prefer a headboard that stops below your shoulders, these are probably not your beds. They are built to make the headboard the center of the room, and that means they ask for a wall that can carry them.
